Hi, I'm

Esther Sanusi

Senior Software Engineer — Android · iOS · Windows · macOS

Building technology for real-world problems.

I'm a Software Engineer with a strong foundation in Native Android development. Over 6+ years I've shipped 20+ live products reaching 10M+ people, across Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS. I solve complex engineering problems and keep expanding my craft, into Kotlin Multiplatform, data science, and AI, to take on bigger challenges. Mastery is the point.

About

About Esther

Esther Sanusi (formerly Esther Tinuade Jolugba) is a Senior Software Engineer based in Lagos, Nigeria, with a foundation in Native Android development. Over 6+ years she has shipped 20+ live applications reaching more than 10 million people, across Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS.

She started as an Android engineer and grew into a software engineer by shipping whatever the product needed, from Kotlin and Jetpack Compose to Kotlin Multiplatform and Flutter. She's now extending that foundation into data science and AI, not to collect technologies, but because some problems need them.

Beyond engineering, Esther is the founder of the Gritty Widows Foundation, which empowers low-income widowed families, and a relentless researcher and reader who is always widening the craft.

How I think

The problem comes first. The technology follows.

I don't start by picking a framework. I start by understanding what actually needs to be solved, then build something reliable, then keep improving it, whether the product is a bank, a courtroom tool, or a crime-reporting app.

Understand

Get the real problem, the users, and the constraints straight before touching a solution.

Build

Ship software that's thoughtful and maintainable, built on real engineering principles rather than code that merely works.

Improve

Measure what's actually happening, then refactor, optimize, and keep the system honest as it grows.

Understand → Build → Improve

Software Engineer, Android · Lagos (Remote)

Nigeria's leading digital bank, 10M+ downloads. Building and maintaining savings features with KMP + Compose Multiplatform.

    • Owned the FairDollar home screen + Help & remote-config FAQs (new USD savings product, 2025)
    • Migrated 3 existing modules to KMP (2025); building Fairlock pre-liquidation & migrating SaversClub to KMP (2026)
    • Optimized CleverTap (events + bots) and Customer.io analytics

  2. Lawpavilion

    Jul 2020 – Mar 2025

Senior Software Engineer / Team Lead · Lagos (Remote)

Led mobile across Lawpavilion's legal-tech suite for ~4 years. With no bandwidth to hire, I bridged the gap, which grew me from an Android engineer into a software engineer shipping across mobile and desktop.

    • Lawpavilion Prime (native Android): co-led the Java→Kotlin migration (15K+ lines, −80% NPEs, crash 4.2% → 0.8%)
    • Built My Research, all GPT features and LPInsight; optimized Lucene search across 2021→2025 case data (relevance +60%)
    • Led 5 Flutter products (Elite, Elite Admin, MOJ, CJRP, CourtAI) with remote-config-driven links & content
    • Built code-review culture (−40% prod bugs), cut releases 2 days → 4 hours, mentored juniors
  3. Frontendlabs Ltd

Agency work: led a team building internal, non-disclosed products and client apps.

    • Led a team of 5; production apps with Kotlin & KMP
    • GraphQL client architecture
    • Multiple internal (NDA) apps + a community/church app
  4. HNG Internship

    Sep 2019 – Nov 2019

    Android Developer Intern · Remote

Built Android apps as program tasks, including KidStories, Car Park, and others.

  5. She Code Africa

    Jan 2020 – Apr 2020

    Mentee · Android track

Community-driven program that built my foundations in Android engineering, and where I first beat imposter syndrome.

Where I've worked

Different industries. The same commitment to solving problems.

Legal Technology

Research tools and case-management systems used by lawyers, courts, and government legal teams.

Financial Technology

Savings and banking features for a digital bank with 10M+ downloads, where reliability and trust aren't optional.

Technology Agency

Client and internal products built under agency constraints: different problems, different stakeholders, same standards.

Social Impact

Crime reporting and community tools built to put real capability into citizens' hands.

The industry changes and the problem changes, but the approach doesn't: understand it, build something reliable, keep improving it.

Now

Deep foundations. Expanding capabilities.

My depth is Native Android and software engineering. Everything since, Kotlin Multiplatform, data science, AI, extends that foundation into new problems rather than replacing it. I don't think mastery means knowing every technology. It means widening the craft without abandoning it.

What I do

How we can work together

Mobile Engineering

Android, KMP, and Flutter apps built for scale: clean architecture, real reliability metrics, and a release process that doesn't fight you.

Technical Writing & Content

Engineering articles, tutorials, and developer-brand collaborations that explain hard mobile problems clearly, backed by shipped work.

Consulting & Mentorship

KMP migration strategy, mobile architecture reviews, and team mentoring, turning legacy Android into something your team is glad to maintain.

How we start

1

Book a call or send a message about what you're building.

2

We scope it: a role, a migration, a consulting engagement, or a feature build.

3

You get shipped, reliable software, with the metrics to prove it's working.

What people say

Beyond the code

Giving back & staying curious

Technology is one way I build. Community is another.

Founder · Gritty Widows Foundation

I founded the Gritty Widows Foundation, which equips low-income widowed families with business skills, healthcare, education, and the financial footing to build sustainable enterprises and break the cycle of poverty. From grief to growth: restoring dignity, one widow at a time.

🔍 Relentless researcher

I love going deep, chasing how things actually work and why. It's the same instinct now pulling me toward data science and AI.

📚 Always reading

A constant reader: books are how I keep learning, widen the craft, and stay curious well beyond the screen.
